For food truck operators, credit card processing fees can represent a significant share of revenue, particularly when margins are tight, and operating costs are ongoing. Better Payments’ zero-fee processing solution is designed to eliminate merchant processing fees, which Northern Media Services says can allow eligible businesses to retain more of their earnings.
“Food truck owners have to keep a close eye on every expense, and payment processing is one recurring cost that can be easy to overlook when sales are coming in,” said a spokesperson for Northern Media Services. “Eliminating these fees can give operators more room to focus on serving customers and running their businesses.”
The service uses a cash discount model that allows businesses to offer customers a discount for paying with cash. The approach gives customers a choice in how they pay while helping merchants offset the costs associated with accepting card payments.
Better Payments also supports businesses that accept payments in person, online, or through a combination of channels. This flexibility can benefit food truck operators who serve customers at their vehicles while also accepting orders or payments online.
Beyond payment processing, Better Payments guides point-of-sale (POS) systems to help businesses select technology suited to their needs. The company also offers on-site training and 24/7 live support, giving food truck operators assistance with implementation and access to help when payment issues arise outside regular business hours.
“Reducing processing costs is important, but business owners also need a payment system that fits the way they operate,” the Northern Media Services spokesperson added. “Having access to POS guidance and training support can make it easier for food truck operators to manage payments while focusing on their customers.”
The service update comes as credit card processing costs continue to climb for merchants across the country. According to the Merchants Payments Coalition, credit and debit card swipe fees reached a record $198.25 billion in 2025, a 5.9% increase from the previous year and an 80% rise since the pandemic.
