Patented technology combines AI detection and plagiarism checking to flag reworded content in academic papers, journal submissions, and job applications.
Seoul, Korea (South), November 4, 2026 -- Wordvice, a provider of academic English editing and AI writing solutions, has secured a South Korean patent for an "Adaptive Plagiarism Detection Method and System Based on AI-Generated Text Detection."
This technology uses AI text detection results to tailor plagiarism checks to individual sections of a document, laying the groundwork for more advanced document verification in academia and recruitment.
Generative AI tools can be used to rephrase and restructure material taken from other sources without attribution, potentially allowing plagiarism to go undetected. Even when a text borrows the substance of an original source, changes in wording can make similarities difficult to identify through checks that primarily rely on matching words and phrases.
The patented technology connects AI text detection to plagiarism analysis, dividing a document into sentences and paragraphs and selectively applying lexical analysis (which matches exact words and phrases) or semantic analysis (which compares meaning) based on the likelihood that each section was generated by AI. For sections with a higher likelihood of AI generation, the system examines whether the content is semantically similar to an original source despite differences in wording, helping users identify passages that may require a closer review of attribution and citation practices.
The system can also adjust its assessment criteria to the subject area and language. Selectively applying the analysis to individual sections is designed to improve accuracy and efficiency. The results appear in an integrated report that presents the likelihood of AI generation, passages with detected similarities, and the original sources of those passages. Users can review flagged content alongside this supporting evidence.
"This technology connects AI detection and plagiarism analysis so reviewers can examine potential similarities alongside the supporting evidence," said Gahye Jeong, CTO of Wordvice.
Wordvice plans to use this technology to support researchers conducting presubmission checks and to help universities and research institutions review research integrity. Researchers will be able to identify passages where sources and citations may require checking, whereas institutional reviewers can assess textual similarities alongside indications of AI-generated writing. Journal editors and editorial teams can also use the system during initial screening to identify submissions that warrant further review.
Moreover, Wordvice is pursuing applications in recruitment. By presenting textual similarities and indications of AI-generated writing in résumés, cover letters, and other application materials, the system aims to help recruiters identify content requiring follow-up and prioritize their reviews.
Building on the patent, Wordvice plans to develop its integrated document verification system further, bringing AI text detection and plagiarism checking into a unified workflow. The company also plans to add a reference checker that verifies whether cited works exist and whether their bibliographic details are accurate, extending its capabilities to flag fabricated references and inaccurate citation information generated by AI.
Combined, these capabilities will create a review environment that covers textual similarity, indications of AI-generated writing, and reference validity. Drawing on its experience in professional editing and AI writing services, Wordvice intends to expand its support across the document lifecycle (from drafting to review and verification) and to strengthen solutions tailored to the needs of universities, research institutions, academic journals, and businesses.
Researchers and students can check their writing for AI-generated text and potential plagiarism using the Wordvice AI Detector and Wordvice AI Plagiarism Checker.
