It’s a place for the adventurous in spirit where interested parties will find medieval castles, incredible golden beaches, bustling cities with famous churches and savory restaurants, or travelers can enjoy the wilderness of the nine volcanic Azores Islands, known as the Hawaii of the Mid Atlantic.

Portugal is situated in the southwest corner of Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. It has its own language, culture and cuisine. It is roughly the size of Indiana and is divided into regions, each with its own history, scenery, and foods. The regions are Algarve, Alentejo, Lisbon, Estremadura and Ribatejo, the Beiras, Douro and Tras-os-Montes, and the Minho. There are also two island groups: the Azores and Madeira.

In the capital city of Lisbon visitors can experience the rich history of the Portuguese people. For families, the Maritime Museum should not be missed, nor the dramatic stone architecture and the colorful artwork. And the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Torre de Belem, is a must-see.

Portugal has the first defined wine region in the world. Port is Portugal’s most famous wine. Port wine grapes are grown in the upper Douro Valley along the Douro River in terraces flowing down steep slopes. Many of the Port Wine houses offer tours and tasting.

From the vineyards of Douro Valley to the Golf Hotels in Algarve, which are considered the best places to play golf worldwide, Portugal has it all. There are many different options available for almost any budget when looking for places to stay ranging from charming beachfront resorts to 5-star city hotels.

Vacation Inspirations offers their members premium vacation packages from worldwide travel providers with the highest ratings. More information about Portugal can be found at the link above.

Why reforms alone won’t prevent a repeat of Tai Po fire

In the end, it was Winnie Ho Wing-yin, housing secretary at the time of the Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po, who took the rap. Her resignation came after weeks of talk within political circles suggesting that bureau chiefs would not have to bear responsibility for the tragedy that killed 168 people and displaced 1,984 families. These suggestions were met with shock. Some spoke out against such talk, including Andrew Fung Wai-kwong, former information coordinator for the Chief Executive’s Office,...
