RIA Compliance Technology launches annual review software amid SEC scrutiny, helping RIAs document policy testing, assess compliance effectiveness, and track corrective actions.

Scottsdale, United States, November 2, 2026 /PressCable/ -- RIA Compliance Technology has announced updates to its annual compliance review software, designed to help SEC- and State-registered investment advisers assess policy effectiveness amid increased regulatory scrutiny. Through its Simple Compliance Portal, the company provides tools for procedure testing, documentation, and corrective-action tracking, helping firms evaluate whether written policies align with their actual business practices.

The SEC's September 14, 2026 risk alert identifies five categories of annual review deficiencies, including incomplete procedures, reviews inconsistent with business practices, inadequate supporting records, and unresolved corrective actions. These examination observations reinforce existing obligations under Rule 206(4)-7, which requires registered advisers to assess policy adequacy and implementation effectiveness at least annually.

For smaller RIAs, meeting these obligations can be challenging when compliance officers also manage operational responsibilities. Testing results, supervisory decisions, and policy updates may be scattered across separate systems, complicating efforts to determine whether procedures were followed and identified deficiencies corrected.

RIA Compliance Technology's Simple Compliance Portal centralizes compliance calendars, procedure testing, task assignments, submissions, and approvals. These capabilities help firms preserve evidence throughout the year, providing an organized foundation for annual assessments without reconstructing documentation from fragmented records.

"An annual review should establish whether a firm's compliance program is actually working throughout the year, not simply whether required tasks were completed," said Blake Bjordahl, president of RIA Compliance Technology. "Maintaining records and documenting follow-up throughout the year gives compliance officers a clear basis for evaluating compliance weaknesses in their firm and determining whether their operations have been effective."

The review process should reflect each firm's operations and mitigate risks. Depending on its activities, relevant testing may address marketing oversight, customer information safeguards, employee trading, or regulatory disclosures. Documented findings and assigned responsibilities can support corrective-action follow-through.

Complementing Simple Compliance Portal’s documentation and organizational capabilities, Simple Email Archive and Simple Trade Monitor provide supporting communications and personal trading records, while leaving compliance judgments with the adviser.

Founded in 2017, RIA Compliance Technology develops compliance management software designed by compliance professionals for compliance professionals. Headquartered in Arizona, the company serves more than 400 advisory firms and compliance consulting firms nationwide.

Chinese scientists found giant ‘chimneys’ in deep water that could alter submarine warfare

Chinese researchers have mapped how energy from surface wind surges thousands of metres into the seabed, revealing massive underwater conduits they called “inertial chimneys”. The discovery, based on data collected by a US-funded ocean sensor array off the east coast of Japan, coupled with future long-term underwater monitoring, can provide underwater acoustic environmental support for marine detection and communication, the team said. The scientists from the Institute of Oceanology of the...
