Global Initiative for Indigenous Advancement and Its Mission to Create Opportunities for Native Communities

Jul 20, 2020

New York City, Jul 19, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Mistreatment and injustices toward Indigenous people have persisted in countless countries all over the world. To this day, these issues continue to affect hundreds of millions of lives and serve as the rationale behind the United Nation's consideration of the advancement of Native communities as one of the keys to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Paying attention to and acting toward the upliftment of Indigenous people is essential. Without promoting their welfare, environmental protection, social equality, peace, security, and more would not be achieved. And all over the world, individual advocates and organizations have made it their mission to promote and uphold the rights of Native people.

One of the leading institutions in this realm of advocacy is the Global Initiative for Indigenous Advancement or GIIA. GIIA is a 501c3 non-government organization founded in 2000 that is passionate about advancing the status of Indigenous people worldwide. Its vision rests on four pillars -- social, economic, health, and education. By identifying four sectors to focus on, GIIA hopes to provide a holistic response to the plights of Native people and address the root causes behind the issues they have been widely subjected to.

GIIA facilitates multitudes of activities under their initiatives, including workshops on Indigenous languages and Indigenous language revival. They also organize summits such as Veterans Wellness Summit, Indigenous FireKeepers Summit, and Intertribal Youth Council, all of which are intended to provide safe spaces for Indigenous people.

This charitable organization and the minds behind it aim to empower Native people by giving them access to proper health care, business training, educational workshops, college funding, and networks. GIIA wishes to equip the tribes and their members with tools that will enable them to not only survive but also thrive in the face of the disadvantages that the world has presented to them.

At the helm of GIIA is a team of cause-oriented people who are dedicated to creating opportunities for Indigenous people across the globe, one of which is Daniel StrongWalker Thomas. A descendant of the Oneida people, Daniel is the traditional chief of the Delaware Nation, Lenape People. And as the President of the Board of Directors and Chief Servant Leader of GIIA, his efforts are geared toward encouraging allies to take part in contributing towards a society that sees the worth and respects the inherent dignity of Native people.

Global Initiative for Indigenous Advancement takes pride in its network of people who have banded together for one unifying cause. In the future, GIIA looks forward to having more advocates, from entrepreneurs and social activists to students and humanitarians, join its roster of dedicated members.

Global Initiative for Indigenous Advancement believes that by banking on the skill set of its members and drawing together the resources of advocates who believe in GIIA's mission, the organization's initiative to support and advance Indigenous people can evolve from being a dream to an eventual reality.

What’s next for Hong Kong developers in mainland China?

Hong Kong’s major property developers are shifting investment in mainland China from residential projects to commercial assets, including hospitality, as weak home sales and fewer attractive investment opportunities prompt them to focus on existing properties, recurring income and debt reduction. “In recent years, after we recycled the capital from our projects, we haven’t really found many good opportunities on the mainland,” Stephen Ng, chairman and managing director of Wharf Holdings, said at...
