New York City, New York Dec 6, 2023 (Issuewire.com) - A board-certified gastroenterologist and advanced therapeutic endoscopy specialist, Dr. Murad has dedicated over 15 years to delivering personalized and high-quality care to patients. He is affiliated with Advocate Medical Group, holding privileges at both Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

Standing out as one of the pioneers in gastroenterology surgery, Dr. Murad is among the first to perform a minimally invasive procedure known as Endoscopic Robot-Assisted Submucosal Endoluminal Resection (ERASER) on rectal lesions, with this groundbreaking work initiated in late 2018.

His expertise extends to the management of complications associated with severe acute pancreatitis and the handling of walled-off pancreatic necrosis. Additionally, Dr. Murad focuses on the management of large endoluminal lesions (polyps) that necessitate procedures such as endoscopic mucosal resection or endoscopic submucosal dissection.

In his line of work, Dr. Murad sees a number of patients with surgically altered anatomy (Whipple surgery, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass for obesity) who benefit greatly from his technical expertise. Beyond complex endoscopy, he focuses on treating patients for gastroesophageal reflux disease, colorectal cancer screening (colonoscopy), inflammatory bowel disease, and gut health (nutrition and placement of feeding tubes).

With a solid educational background, Dr. Murad attended medical school at Trinity College Dublin. He then went on to perform his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Minnesota. Upon completion, he was accepted to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for his advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship, working with some of the premier interventional endoscopists in the country.

Committed to excellence, Dr. Murad is board-certified in both gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Murad served as Chief of Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy at NorthShore University Health System where he performed hundreds of complex cases. Prior to his time at NorthShore, he was an Associate Professor of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, and served as Director of the EUS Program within the Section of Interventional Endoscopy. During his time there, Dr. Murad co-founded the Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) Program and performed the first POEM for achalasia in Missouri.

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

Attributing his success to delivering excellent patient care and having great mentors, Dr. Murad boasts a publication record exceeding 50 articles and has earned numerous awards in recognition of his outstanding contributions.
