Get to know Speech-Language Pathologist, Emily M. Aten-Newberry, who serves patients in State College, Pennsylvania.
New York City, New York Sep 2, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - A committed speech-language pathologist, Emily is the Owner of Above and Beyond Speech Therapy, LLC - a private practice providing quality in-person speech/language evaluations, therapy, and consultation for children ages 3 and older in State College, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding areas. She is also able to provide teletherapy to any children living in the state of Pennsylvania.
"The heart of my speech therapy private practice is putting my clients and their families first, going above and beyond by helping in any way that I can to decrease frustration and increase communication. It brings me so much joy to see my clients gain the confidence to become effective communicators! And collaborating with families is also very important to me. Home follow through is essential to success" expressed Emily.
Throughout the years, she has provided evidence-based speech/language evaluations and therapy for clients who have autism, Down syndrome, Intellectual Disability, speech/articulation disorders, receptive and/or expressive language disorders, social language needs, and stuttering needs. She maximizes a child's speech and language abilities to reach their full potential.
She specializes in working with children with complex communication needs (CCNs) who need Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). No matter the child, she will work with them and their family to advance strengths, address needs, and find an effective communication system for them.
Her son went through early intervention speech therapy so she knows the challenges and struggles. But she also knows the pride and joy that fills a family when a child progresses above and beyond what they ever thought possible.
Before opening Above and Beyond Speech Therapy, LCC, Emily worked as a speech-language pathologist with school-aged children in the State College Area School District for over a decade. She graduated from Penn State with her Bachelor of Science degree in 2006 and her Master of Science degree in 2008, majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD).
She has her speech therapy teaching certificate through the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), her PA state speech therapy license, the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and several ACES awards from ASHA because of her extra continuing education credits.
A member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Emily truly believes that the child teaches her as much as she teaches them.
Speech-language pathology is a field of expertise practiced by a clinician known as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) or a speech therapist. SLPs treat and diagnose speaking disabilities. They help patients with articulation, stuttering, fluency, the rhythm of speech, and more. Additionally, they may treat patients who have difficulty with language and social skills. Patients see SLPs for a variety of reasons, including relearning language after an accident, overcoming a voice disorder, enhancing social communication skills, as well as improving speaking clarity.
On a more personal note, Emily is a wife and mother to a school-aged son, a cat, a ball python, a crested gecko, and whatever else her husband brings home. She loves PiYo, P90X, being outside, and milk chocolate.

A late South Korean veteran who was awarded the U.S. Silver Star Medal for his role in a Korean War battle in 1952 has recently been reissued the medal posthumously after it went missing decades ago, officials said Wednesday. Late Army Staff Sgt. Nam Woon-soo was given the U.S. honor, as well as the Chungmu Order of Military Merit from the South Korean government, in 1953 for playing a key role in the Battle of White Horse Hill in what is the current border town of Cheorwon, some 80 kilometers northeast of Seoul. During the battle, Nam crawled his way up to the entrance of the enemy's position and destroyed it, making a decisive contribution to neutralizing enemy firepower. It was one of the Korean War's most fiercely fought battles between the U.S.-backed South Korean forces and the communist troops from China. After the medal went missing somehow, Nam had expressed frustration and regret before his death in 1997. His bereaved family later asked the South Korean government to reissue the medal, but the request was denied on grounds that it was issued by the U.S. government. In February t

The main opposition People Power Party (PPP) on Wednesday accused Defense Minister Kang Shin-chul of undermining the South Korea-U.S. alliance over his remarks about trusting the U.S. military in the event of a war with North Korea. Kang came under fire during a parliamentary audit Monday when he questioned whether South Korea can "really trust the U.S. military" if a war broke out with North Korea, while responding to an opposition lawmaker's concerns over Seoul's push to retake wartime operational control (OPCON) from Washington. "The defense minister's remarks are undermining the trust in the 73-year-old alliance," PPP chief spokesperson Park Choong-kwon said in a commentary. Rep. Park criticized Kang for pushing ahead with the OPCON transfer despite not having held any talks with U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth since taking office last month. He urged President Lee Jae Myung to immediately dismiss Kang, saying he is no longer qualified to serve as defense minister. Other lawmakers also denounced Kang's remarks, questioning his views on national security. "Is it not because the defe
