Born and raised in South Florida, Dr. Schapiro received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida in 1994 where he graduated with distinction on the President's Honor Roll for having a perfect 4.0 grade point average. He received his medical degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2000 where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and graduated in the top 10 percent of his class. He was also a member of the Iota Epsilon Alpha International Medical Honor Society and the Golden Key National Honor Society.
Furthering his training, Dr. Schapiro completed his orthopedic residency at Henry Ford Health Systems, a Level I Trauma Center, in Detroit in 2005. As a resident, he was awarded the Robert H. Frost, M.D. Memorial Award for Outstanding Research.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS), Dr. Schapiro is double board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (in orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine) and the American Board of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine.
Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system.
