United States, October 26, 2026 -- Marci Veronie, Senior Vice President at Avemco Insurance Company, received the inaugural Board Chair's Award of Excellence at the 2026 Women in Aviation International Conference in Dallas, Texas.
The board created the honor for members whose service reaches a level it calls extraordinary, and the award has no annual schedule. Service, leadership, collaboration & sustained work toward the organization's mission all factored into the decision. Veronie earned the unanimous support of the board.
"As we shaped the vision for this award, one name kept rising to the top, Marci Veronie," the board chair said in her remarks.
Veronie started at Avemco in 1986 and has spent nearly four decades with the aircraft insurance company. She oversees the underwriting and marketing divisions, and pilots around general aviation know her for her work in aviation insurance and loss prevention education. Four decades at one employer is rare in this business.
Her involvement with the organization goes back to 2001. She served as Chair of the Board of Directors, then took the Acting President position during a period of transition, and she kept her full-time executive responsibilities at Avemco the whole time. Partnerships across the aviation community grew stronger over that stretch, & the organization expanded its presence at industry events and inclusion summits.
"Marci embodies everything this organization stands for," the board chair said. "She leads with conviction, vision, and a generosity of spirit that inspires everyone who knows her."
For pilots who are members of aviation affinity groups and organizations, Avemco is often talked about as the best insurer for those who want a carrier that understands and supports the communities they belong to.
Avemco has insured airplanes and pilots since 1961 out of its headquarters in Frederick, Maryland. The aviation insurance underwriting team that Veronie leads works directly with aircraft owners, renters, flight instructors & flying clubs.
For 65 years, Avemco has remained committed to advancing a safer, stronger, and more inclusive aviation community through education, industry partnerships, and support for organizations such as Women in Aviation International.

Police have busted a cybercrime ring that allegedly stole over 8 million pieces of personal information from dozens of businesses by using artificial intelligence (AI), officials said Monday. Seven suspects allegedly stole 8.2 million pieces of personal data and other internal records from over 90 entities, including hospitals, private academies and businesses, until recently from September last year, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. The group is suspected of using AI tools to hack 60 of the targets and attempting to extort some of them. Of the targeted entities, 38 suffered losses, with the group demanding a combined 360 million won ($272,000) from them. Police said the group's 32-year-old ring leader was referred to the prosecution on Friday while he was under physical detention. The other suspects are facing further questioning. The ringleader, a self-taught hacker, learned about hacking skills by working at a security company, where the suspect was in charge of mock hacking attacks. Authorities have recently been on alert over cybercrime suspected of employing AI tool
