Mike Downs Fencing Highlights 25 Years of Owner-Built Fence Installation Across North Texas
Oct 20, 2026
Sherman-based fencing contractor continues serving Grayson County homeowners with custom installations, durable materials and hands-on craftsmanship.
Sherman, Texas, United States, October 20, 2026 -- Mike Downs Fencing, a locally owned fencing contractor serving Sherman, Denison and surrounding North Texas communities, is highlighting its more than 25 years of experience in custom fence construction, with a continued focus on owner-built installations, durable materials and residential property improvements across Grayson County.
Founded by third-generation fence builder Mike Downs, the company provides custom wood, wrought iron, chain-link and agricultural fencing for residential and commercial properties. Unlike contractors that rely on subcontracted installation crews, Downs personally builds each fence, overseeing projects from initial property measurements through installation and final inspection.
The company's approach reflects the experience Downs gained while growing up in Bells, Texas, where he learned fencing techniques from his grandfather and uncles. Those early years working alongside family members established the construction practices he continues to follow today.
Owner-Built Fencing With a Focus on Material Quality
A central part of the company's construction approach involves selecting materials suited to the environmental conditions of North Texas. For custom wood fences, Mike Downs Fencing uses Western Red Cedar, heavy-duty steel posts and installation methods intended to address common problems such as wood deterioration, leaning fence lines and unstable gates.
The company also emphasizes proper post depth, durable hardware and construction methods appropriate for local soil conditions. These considerations are particularly relevant for homeowners replacing aging fences or installing new property boundaries.
For homeowners considering Sherman custom fences, the company offers several configurations, including board-on-board privacy fencing, side-by-side wood fencing, horizontal designs and ornamental iron installations. Additional services include automatic gates, fence staining, repairs and adjustments.
Rather than assigning multiple crews to different projects, Downs maintains direct involvement throughout construction. According to the company, this allows customers to communicate with the person responsible for the installation and discuss project requirements directly.
Serving Sherman, Denison and Surrounding Communities
Mike Downs Fencing has operated in North Texas since 2002, completing fencing projects across Sherman, Denison, Pottsboro, Howe, Van Alstyne, Whitesboro, Bonham and neighboring communities.
The company also provides services for agricultural properties, including split-rail fencing, three-rail installations, no-climb wire fencing and ranch enclosures. Its services accommodate different property requirements, from residential privacy and perimeter security to livestock containment.
Through its Denison TX fence company services, the contractor works with homeowners evaluating fence replacements, property improvements and new installations.
Customers can request an on-site estimate, during which Downs assesses the property, discusses suitable materials and fence configurations, and provides pricing based on the proposed work.
After more than two decades operating in the region, Mike Downs Fencing continues to follow its owner-built approach, combining traditional fencing experience with materials and installation practices intended for long-term residential and commercial use.
