Hangzhou, Zhejiang Oct 21, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - Municipalities and transport authorities face growing pressure to build durable infrastructure while minimizing long-term fiscal burdens. Conventional steel bridges demand constant maintenance due to coating degradation and environmental corrosion. To solve this challenge, engineering teams increasingly specify advanced AWS D1.5 and ASTM A709 Corten Weathering Steel Box Girder and Metal Truss Bridge (https://www.famoussteel.com/q355nhd-weather-resistance-steel-plate-assembled-steel-structure-truss-bridge-main-girder.html) infrastructure configurations. This metallurgy eliminates the need for recurring paint cycles, directly lowering maintenance demands. Consequently, structural designers can deliver robust road and rail infrastructure that withstands harsh atmospheric conditions for decades. By integrating specialized material science with rigorous welding standards, transport agencies achieve a balance between structural safety and fiscal responsibility. Global supply chains now offer highly efficient prefabrication options to meet these international infrastructure demands. The Passivation Micro-Mechanism: How ASTM A709 Patina Kinetics Eliminate Protective Coatings The primary benefit of weathering steel lies in its unique chemical composition, which changes how the metal interacts with the atmosphere. Standard carbon steel forms a porous oxide layer that traps moisture, promoting continuous rust and eventual structural failure. In contrast, ASTM A709 weathering steel contains precise alloying elements, including copper, chromium, nickel, and phosphorus. These elements alter the electrochemical process during exposure to ambient weather conditions. When the steel undergoes alternating wet and dry environmental cycles, a natural chemical reaction occurs. The surface develops a dense, stable, non-porous layer of iron oxyhydroxide, commonly known as a patina. This protective coating adheres tightly to the base metal substrate. Consequently, the patina blocks oxygen and moisture from penetrating deeper into the structural steel. This self-healing mechanism repairs itself if mechanical damage scratches the surface. Because the steel passivates naturally, project owners can eliminate volatile organic compound paints entirely from their budgets. This design methodology supports sustainable engineering by removing toxic blasting chemicals from the local ecosystem. Specifying a paint-free structural steel bridge for weather resistance (https://www.famoussteel.com/europe-usa-standard-corten-steel-plate-made-paint-free-structural-steel-bridge-for-weather-resistance.html) provides an environmentally neutral option for fragile habitats. Structural Fatigue and Weld Integrity: Executing Fracture-Critical Joints under AWS D1.5 Standards While material selection forms the foundation, high-quality fabrication determines the true service life of a weathering steel bridge. Bridge structures experience continuous cyclic loading from heavy vehicles, making them highly vulnerable to fatigue fracture propagation. Therefore, fabrication facilities must follow the strict rules of the AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code. This specialized standard ensures that all fracture-critical joints maintain maximum structural integrity under dynamic stresses. Achieving a durable connection requires careful alignment between the weld material and the parent weathering steel plate. Fabricators must select specific low-hydrogen consumables to achieve matching corrosion resistance and uniform color maturation. Without this compatibility, the welded joints might corrode faster than the surrounding steel plates. To guarantee compliance, FAMOUS Steel (https://www.famoussteel.com/about-us/) (Hangzhou FAMOUS Steel Engineering Co.,Ltd.) enforces precise preheating and heat-input controls. This technical management eliminates micro-fissures and prevents hydrogen-induced cracking inside the heat-affected zone. Furthermore, expert technicians perform rigorous non-destructive testing, utilizing ultrasonic and radiographic inspection methods on all main joints. This strict quality control ensures that the completed box girders and truss nodes perform flawlessly under heavy transport demands. Geometric Rigidity: Torsional Optimization of Prefabricated Weathering Box Girders and Truss Systems Bridge design requires careful evaluation of structural forces to optimize load-carrying efficiency across wide crossings. Closed-section box girders provide exceptional torsional rigidity, which makes them ideal for curved overpasses and heavy rail tracks. The hollow design distributes twisting forces evenly across the steel plates, preventing localized structural distortion. This geometric advantage allows engineers to minimize total steel thickness while maintaining high safety factors. Alternatively, open-web metal truss configurations offer an excellent strength-to-weight ratio for long-span pedestrian and highway bridges. The triangular layout of the truss members channels tension and compression forces along direct load paths. This distribution reduces the dead weight of the superstructure, allowing for longer spans between support piers. To prevent interior corrosion, FAMOUS Steel integrates advanced environmental drainage details within all closed cells. Designers include specialized weep holes and airtight seals to prevent moisture accumulation inside the box sections. These internal adjustments preserve the structural equilibrium of the bridge for many decades. Consequently, procurement teams receive optimized components that simplify shipping arrangements and reduce field erection challenges. Quantifying Infrastructure LCC: Transforming Initial Capital Expenditure into Multi-Decade Operational Savings Financial directors often evaluate bridge procurement through a comprehensive life-cycle cost analysis. Traditional carbon steel bridges require significant initial capital and demand ongoing operational funds for upkeep. Over a typical 75-year design life, a painted bridge requires multiple sandblasting and recoating operations to combat rust. These maintenance cycles disrupt traffic, create environmental hazards, and inflate municipal budgets significantly. In contrast, unpainted weathering steel structures dramatically lower long-term operational expenditures. Eliminating the recurring maintenance loop saves millions of dollars in material costs, equipment rentals, and specialized labor. Furthermore, transport authorities avoid indirect societal costs, such as traffic congestion delays and lane closures. Although weathering steel carries a slight premium during initial material sourcing, it achieves financial parity within the first fifteen years of service. After this point, the elimination of maintenance costs generates pure savings for the infrastructure owner. This fiscal benefit transforms infrastructure assets from continuous liabilities into highly efficient municipal investments. By selecting self-protecting materials, regional planning departments allocate public funds more effectively to other vital community services. De-risking Global Infrastructure Projects: FAMOUS Steel's Advanced Prefabrication and Quality Assurance Cross-border procurement of heavy infrastructure components requires absolute certainty regarding quality control and geometric accuracy. Errors discovered during on-site assembly can cause severe delays and budget overruns. To mitigate these risks, Hangzhou FAMOUS Steel Engineering Co.,Ltd. utilizes comprehensive prefabrication workflows that guarantee exact alignment before shipment. Every piece of steel undergoes automated cutting, drilling, and shaping to achieve strict tolerances. A crucial part of this quality protocol involves mandatory shop trial assembly. Technicians assemble large box sections and complex truss nodes inside the controlled factory environment. This practice verifies all bolt hole locations, splice connections, and geometric dimensions against the original workshop drawings. Once verified, workers disassemble the bridge and package the components to prevent transport damage. The technical team provides detailed digital installation guides and nesting layouts to streamline unloading at the destination port. This detailed attention ensures smooth on-site installation, allowing local contractors to complete the project quickly. Partnering with an experienced global fabricator allows transport ministries to execute complex infrastructure upgrades safely and efficiently. INCHEON — The suspect behind last week's stabbing spree in Incheon has tested negative for psychopathy, police and legal sources said Thursday. The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency conducted a psychopathy test on the 59-year-old suspect, Choi Choong-rak, but his score fell below the 25 out of 40 points needed to classify him as a psychopath. Choi is accused of attempting to kill 10 people at a commercial complex in Incheon, west of Seoul, on Oct. 13, by wielding knives in both hands. The rampage left eight people injured, including one who remains unconscious after suffering cardiac arrest. The two others escaped without harm. During police questioning, Choi said he carried out the attack out of anger over medical treatment he received at a local hospital. He also told police that he did not target specific people but chose those who looked weaker than him. Choi has 10 prior convictions, including two for attempted murder. Police said they are analyzing evidence and conducting further investigations to determine his motive and whether the attack was premeditated.
An appeals court on Thursday ruled against U.S. private equity firm Lone Star Funds in its suit against the Korean and Seoul city governments to return a combined 168.2 billion won ($125.9 million) in taxes. The Seoul High Court handed down the ruling against Lone Star after the Supreme Court returned the case to the appeals court for review in April last year. The Texas-based firm had earlier filed the suit against the state and the municipality, seeking the return of withheld taxes in connection with profits from its investments in Korea. Lone Star and affiliate firms purchased large shares of Korea Exchange Bank, Kukdong Engineering Construction and Starlease between 2002 and 2005, and made huge profits by selling some of the shares in 2007. They paid smaller taxes than local companies would have, citing the tax treaty that Korea has with Belgium where the company that made the investment was based. The National Tax Service (NTS) levied additional corporate taxes against Lone Star and its entities, offsetting them with withheld taxes. Lone Star then filed a suit seeking cancellation of

A court on Thursday ruled against Young Poong Corp. in a shareholder derivative lawsuit seeking 837 billion won ($631 million) in damages from Korea Zinc Co. Chairman Choi Yun-beom and other company directors. Young Poong — a major shareholder in Korea Zinc — had filed the suit in November 2024, claiming Korea Zinc's directors had inflicted losses of 837 billion won on the company by making a tender offer involving the purchase of its own shares at 890,000 won apiece, when the actual price was around 560,000 won. The Seoul Central District Court ruled, however, that Korea Zinc's directors could not be deemed to have violated their managerial duties, given the steps they took before making the purchase. It also ruled that the action did not violate the Commercial Act or the company's articles of incorporation.
